New Product:  M&M Timber adds DuraSleeper and DuraEdge Timber to RangeMM_Timber_-_DuraSleeper_1

Product innovation is at the core of the M&M Timber business; the Worcestershire-based manufacturer of quality long-life timber products for agricultural, equestrian, landscaping, construction, and amenity sectors. Exploring new products to satisfy growing customer demand is what the business thrives on and now the team is delighted to announce two new additions - DuraSleeper and DuraEdge.

Manufactured using Radiata Pine, which is kiln dried then pressure treated with Tanalith E wood preservative, DuraSleeper_-_MM_Timberthe DuraSleeper range can be used in a variety of configurations to create edging and wall features. The sleepers are available in two finishes, rough sawn and planed, and can come in a selection of lengths. Bespoke timbers can also be manufactured for bulk orders to meet the requirement of specific projects.  For landscaping or construction projects that include corners in the design, the new DuraEdge presents the ideal solution. It comes with the same specification as the sleeper range and can work in partnership with M&M Timber’s Unilog Pro landscaping timbers.

Timbers are kiln dried and pressure treated with Tanalith E, a copper-based wood preservative with high-performance credentials from Lonza Wood Protection. The preservative incorporates BARamine supported absorption into the timbers as well as helping the protection against certain copper tolerant brown rots which can attack timber.  At the start of the year, M&M Timber gained the Wood Protection Association (WPA) accreditation for the quality of its treated wood for the 5th consecutive year.

Fraser Hall, Sales Director at M&M Timber said; “As a business, we are continually DuraEdge_-_MM_Timberdeveloping our timber range to offer customers new exciting ideas and solutions. Product innovation and quality are our primary objectives and we’re confident the new DuraSleeper and DuraEdge delivers on both. Both ranges complement our existing timber portfolio perfectly.  Preparation of the timbers is paramount with the kiln drying process ensuring full sapwood penetration.  We have already seen excellent traction with our landscaping and play customer base.”

To further endorse M&M Timber as a leading supplier of treated timber the business was awarded the Wood Protection Association ‘Treated Wood Trader of the Year’ for 2017.

The WPA is a technical and advisory organisation dedicated to the use of wood protection technology to improve the performance and value of wood as a sustainable construction material. Their aim is to guide specifiers and designers to make the right choices for wood on resistance to decay, insects and fire. Their annual awards ceremony is a real highlight in the timber sector calendar, with many companies battling it out to claim the top spots!  Commenting on the success of M&M Timber in the 2017 Awards WPA Director Steve Young said:” M&M Timber were early adopters of the WPA Benchmark quality scheme for treated wood as well as incising technology. They are highly regarded for their treatment capabilities by the independent experts used by WPA to carry out quality audits but M&M’s novel approach to segmenting the market for treated wood also caught the judges eye.”

Based near Clows Top, Worcestershire, M&M Timber is one of the UK’s leading suppliers of machine rounded timber products and are highly regarded by landscaping professionals right across the country. In winning the award the business was recognised for its innovation in product development and forward-thinking investment for both the future sustainability of the M&M Timber business and the wider treated wood industry. With its new management team, led by the CEO of owners Forest Garden, M&M Timber has re-shaped its business strategy to diversify into new markets, whilst ensuring not to lose sight of its traditional agricultural fencing business.

Product innovation is a major part of the business, with recent product extensions including the new SolarGuard range of posts and strainers to meet fencing requirements within the renewable energy sector. The landscaping sector is another growth area for M&M Timber and following customer insight, the business is launching its brand new DuraSleeper and DuraEdge products this April.  The range of sleepers are manufactured using Radiata Pine which is kiln dried and pressure treated with Tanalith E wood preservative for durability and long service life.

The investment and security brought to the business by their owners Forest Garden also enables M&M Timber to be part of the whole process from planting saplings at the businesses forests in Scotland & Wales, right through to providing merchandising support for end products ready to be sold to consumers.

When it comes to pressure treatment and preservation, M&M Timber holds a unique position in the industry. For the fifth consecutive year the business has achieved the WPA Benchmark of quality for treated wood. Independent verification of the quality and performance of treated products is the only way to preserve confidence in wood as the best material for fencing and outdoor landscaping.

M&M Timber was first awarded the WPA Benchmark Certificate for 15 years desired service life but has recently raised the bar to achieve certification of products treated to deliver a 30 years desired service life. Verification of this kind is still very rare for the industry – signifying M&M Timber’s exclusive position and ongoing commitment to quality.

Fraser Hall, M&M Timber commented; The Prestige Fencing by M&M Timber is a 100% British grown and manufactured product – something we’re extremely proud of. M&M Timber Awarded WPA Benchmark Quality Accolade

M&M Timber has successfully retained, for a fifth consecutive year, the Wood Protection Association (WPA) Benchmark of quality for treated wood. The WPA Benchmark is a quality assurance scheme providing independent verification that treated wood has been impregnated correctly in accordance with the requirements of BS8417 – the British Standard for preservative impregnated wood.
 Fraser_Hall_-_MM_Timber_WEB
Under the WPA Benchmark QAS firms with products Certificated as ‘fit for purpose’ by the WPA are required to have their treatment plant and treatment process validated by an annual audit. M&M Timber was first awarded the WPA Benchmark Certificate for 15 years desired service life pine products in 2011 and has subsequently added 15 years incised spruce products to the scope of its WPA Certificate. In its most recent annual audit M&M has raised the quality bar even further to achieve certification of products treated to deliver a 30 years desired service life in BS8417.

Commenting on this achievement WPA director Steve Young said; “. M&M Timber has always had a reputation for quality and as an early adopter of the WPA Benchmark scheme recognised the benefit that expert third-party verification of quality can bring in building buyer confidence in the ability of treated wood to perform. To have 30 year desired service life fencing products certificated by the WPA Benchmark scheme is still very rare and M&M Timbers’ achievement is a clear sign of their ongoing commitment to quality and meeting customer needs. Manufacturers such as M&M Timber are leading the way in the industry by demonstrating that independent verification of the quality and performance of treated products is the only way to preserve confidence in wood as the best material for fencing and outdoor landscaping.”

Fraser Hall, Sales Director at M&M Timber, commented; “It is excellent that M&M Timber has yet again successfully secured the WPA Benchmark for the Tanalith E wood preservation used on timbers manufactured at our site in Clows Top, Worcestershire. The WPA is working hard to get more timber treaters accredited to ensure that wood preservative treatments are being used effectively.  As a recently appointed member of the WPA board of directors I look forward to promoting the benefits of the WPA Benchmark quality scheme within the timber industry to make WPA Benchmark Certificated products the natural first choice for buyers seeking long term performance from treated wood.”

MM_Timber_West_Midlands_Safari_Park__14There will be no ‘sleeping lions’ at the West Midland Safari Park now that its sea lions will be jumping at great height! Children, parents and visitors will be amazed as they watch sea lions entertain the crowds from a new tower overlooking the sea lion enclosure – and its thanks to M&M Timber that the construction has been possible.

Leading timber manufacturer, M&M Timber located locally to the adventure park in the village of Clows Top near Kidderminster, has supplied the wood for the structure. It has provided its Playguard Radiata posts and Agripost rounds. All of the timbers were supplied straight cut, the machining for the drill holes was done on site by the safari park and then the installation was carried out by the safari parks maintenance team. Now that the structure is in place, visitors can enjoy sea lion shows throughout the day; at the very top of the structure there is a standing platform for one of the sea lion trainers to talk to the audience during the show and below that is a raised platform for the sea lions to jump off into the water.

M&M Timber Develops Exclusive SolarGuard Posts - 23rd August 2016

Leading timber products manufacturer, M&M Timber is offering long life fencing for solar farms with the introduction of their new SolarGuard posts. Following overwhelming demand from fencing contractors the new SolarGuard posts have been exclusively designed to cater for the growing need for quality, durable fencing for solar installations.

Protect your investment: install secure fencing and avoid costly disruptions
There are now over 465 solar farms in Britain – with investment in renewable energy escalating over the last decade as farmers, landowners and entrepreneurs look to source a reliable income stream and Government seek to increase the UK’s renewable energy capacity. The installation of solar energy is a huge capital investment and costly to repair – so methods to protect, strengthen and secure solar farm perimeters is fundamentally important. Often spread over very large areas of open land and located miles from any public areas, installations can be vulnerable to theft and vandalism, as well as to damage caused by incursions of wildlife such as deer. Fencing using bespoke SolarGuard posts can help to deter trespassers and minimise the risk of damage. Solar cells are installed in interconnected arrays; if one is damaged or stolen it can affect the whole line, considerably reducing output and your bottom line.
M&M Timber has been a leading authority on fencing timbers for more than 30 years. They have invested heavily in specialised manufacturing and processing plants to ensure products reflect the latest in technological advances and remain at the forefront of an increasingly changing market.

Unique design for maximum security
The bespoke SolarGuard posts offer long life performance and are ideal for remote or extreme locations. Each post features a scientifically designed incising process for increased protection - a virtual 'zone of confidence' - at the critical area where the post is at most risk of decay. The incisions allow deeper penetration of the Tanalith E wood preservative to provide more effective and consistent defence. M&M Timber is able to offer a full 15 year warranty on SolarGuard posts - and for extreme locations a 30 year in-service lifetime warranty is available. With three times the life-span of conventional fencing timbers, the natural looking machined round SolarGuard posts offer real economy in terms of renewable fencing labour costs and materials.

Fraser Hall, Sales Director at M&M Timber commented; “When investment is made in solar energy, protecting and sustaining that investment is the number one priority. Our SolarGuard posts are a bespoke design to provide maximum protection. They are 4 way pointed for ultimate stability, each post is tagged for traceability and their bulky specification helps to deter theft. We pride ourselves on offering an efficient, reliable service – quotations can be turned around within 24 hours and we offer nationwide delivery straight to the site with mechanical off-load. We are confident that the SolarGuard posts offer everything in terms of longevity, durability and protection that will secure solar investment.”
